I have a confession: I am living a double life. There’s the one you all know (or are getting to know) – the intensely platformed and painted extreme fashion enthusiast. Then there’s my dirty little secret. A conservative office. A closet full of sensible clothes. Leaving the house daily in little to no makeup and boots with only an inch of sole stacked beneath the heels.
It’s more than just a change of clothes from day to night. My separate wardrobes have taken on identities of their own. I was approached in my neighborhood once by someone interested in my outfit. As we spoke, she asked if I worked in the area. Without giving it a second thought I responded, “No.” I had to correct myself – in fact, I was merely a block or two from work – but the girl standing there talking to her in Jeffrey Campbells, layers of lash, and a crown of fresh flowers was so far removed from the awkward office girl, I could easily forget they were both me.
The after-hours persona is an ever-evolving experiment. Over the past few weeks a rebel girl grunge influence surfaced. My alter ego wore a septum ring (inspired by Alexander Wang SS11) and was painted in carefully placed tattoos – a triangle inside my left wrist, a feather or phrase on my inner arm, and a circle just behind my right ear. After the gritty rock wonderland show that transpired at Great Scott last night [details and pics to come!] I think these urges are satiated. Besides, this site was beginning to lean a bit glam goth with all the black and leather and spikes…

I wanted to lighten things up a bit tonight, and the barely-there Cheap Monday Frilled Slip Dress, available at Nasty Gal, is the perfect piece to do it. It feels fresh, pure – and practically naked! The ultra-sheer nude slip dress is dripping with effortless sex appeal, from the scoop neck to the asymmetric ruffle hem. I’d opt for a bit more modesty, layering it with something like the AllSaints Olivia Slip (have and love!), or the more basic Commando Nude Slip. Paired with a long, chunky knit cardigan (like the one pictured), softly disheveled hair, thick socks and some sturdy platform sandals or open-toes, it’s a a perfect balance of seductive and sweet.
With this dress added to the arsenal, my alter ego and I would be fully prepared to embrace the girly goddess persona… However, I might hold on to the faux piercing or one small tattoo for a little while longer. They’re starting to grow on me…

I love alter-egos. I think every woman (and man) should have one. And as always, love the post! xo.
